Go Green For Envy!!

Published October 20, 2015 by sarahsmith1988

Today I needed some much deserved time out on my own, since I am a full time mummy with hands full. I managed to find a short escape in which I took advantage of and got myself down town where I took the pleasure in a good book at a coffee shop. But no girl can take a trip to town without checking out the makeup in stores! Which as always leads to purchases beyond our control.

A sneaky escape

A sneaky escape

If it was up to me I think I would probably buy the whole store! However doing this would not be wise. So I stuck to a purchase in the region of £30 however I saved over £10 in savings and offers, therefore I feel less guilty about it.

After my usual routine of coming home and making dinner, and getting the girls ready for bed, I settled down to try out some of the products purchased. (I did not do them all as the blog post will be a million words long)

Sticking to my “strong vibrant colours” I decided to do green, a colour that not many can pull off and has to be done to perfection to look right (IMHO) I am waaaaay with a hundred A’s inserted out of my zone eeeek! But what the heck! Good things happen out of the comfort zone right?

I first prepped my face, using fix and perfect primer (Rimmel) I loved the feel of this product, it was almost like silk and applied beautifully. It left my skin nice and soft, which made it easier to apply my foundation and of course my B popping candy highlight serum! This is the first time I have used primers. Over time I learn new things, remember I am starting out from the bottom with makeup, so I didnt really know just how much benefits primer’s have! I soon discovered this made a huge difference to the finish of my foundation. After applying foundation I began with the highlight and contouring. I didnt need a contouring kit, as I already had one, but I saw it and thought I may as well purchase it and test it out against my cream contouring palette. (This one is powder)  Collage of contouring kit

The product is “Define & Conquer Contour Kit” By “Seventeen” not a very expensive item at all, pretty much in everyone’s budget. I applied the product as started in the instructions and do I like? Hmm, not such a huge fan! I think this is down to always using cream based products, but I must say I do prefer creams to the powder. This is the first powder contour and highlight kit I have used so I may try another from a different brand and compare. But it did the job alright, you dont need a lot of product, but it is difficult to blend. Does take awhile to get everything blended so you dont have heavy lines remaining. IMAG0819

Now for the eyes! I used minimal products for this, I didnt want to use a lot of products with the shadow been green. Thought it may of looked a little over the top and dramatic! I first applied a primer, this was Exaggerate undercover shadow primer again by “Rimmel” I picked this up the same time as the face primer on my cosmetic haul in Boots! Again this left a lovely finish, silky and smooth. When i applied the white shadow base I instantly noticed a difference as the product appeared brighter! (So thank you to all the beauty bloggers out there who did reviews on primer, all your work paid off, I eventually listened, should of sooner!) Once the white base was applied I chose 3 different shades of green dark, medium and light of course and applied the darker shade to the outer corner of my eye and working my way inwards towards the tear duct with the shades and carefully blending them. pretty simple!

IMAG0822

I then applied liquid eye liner (Please be aware I am a million times better at applying eye liner, but I unfortunately wear glasses and could not see, I couldnt get close to the mirror either, due to a huge baby bump! Dilemma’s everywhere! But you get the idea there!) Finishing off with mascara. I used my second favorite mascara this time round!!

Feeling a little blue?

Published October 20, 2015 by sarahsmith1988

Ok, So I guess I am going a little crazy here and just going to head well out of my comfort zone and go for the most brightest, bold and vibrant colours out there! Let’s step well out of the comfort zone and start exploring the colourful side!

B Sweet Popping Candy Highlighting Serum

B Sweet Popping Candy Highlighting Serum

I typed into google “party eyeshadow tutorial” specifically as party make up is often wild and out of the ordinary. Usually often thrown in the mix is lots of glitter and sparkle! What more could a girl want?? Bring on the sparkle!

Any way. I thought about the colour blue. I am not a huge fan of blue eyeshadow, it takes a certain skin tone, eye colour, hair colour to pull it off. I an remember back when I was 14 and I used to apply blue eyeshadow all over my eye lid and up to my brow bone with lots of cheap clumpy mascara and thought I looked amazing! Boy, how much do I cringe thinking back to them times. I avoided all blue shades after looking back at the memory. *Shudder*

So today I am stepping massivly out of my comfort zone and going straight in with the blue.. However, this time a little more er, tamer!

IMAG0797

First thing first is I applied my usual foundation mixed in with B sweet popping candy highlighter. In my previous posts you will notice I mentioned this a few times this is a little tub of amazing pearly beads swamped in a mixture of clear gel once you press the pump the little pearl beads mix with the gel creating a lovely blob of sparkle! Mix it in with foundation and your face just glows like a brand spanking new face! Its amazing trust me! Best buy of the year for me. You can buy this from Superdrug (UK) priced at £14.99 however it is currently on offer for £7.49 so hurry! After applying this magic to my face and blending well I applied concealer under my eyes and blended using the blending bud. I sometimes add contouring and highlight but today I thought I would keep face products to a minimum, more due to the fact I was running out of time at this point and still had not applied my eyeshadow or filled my brows in!! IMAG0798

For my eyes I took a white pencil and coloured in the entire eye lid, blending well and a little over the crease to create a base. Taking a dark blue shadow (Mine was dark blue with shimmer) I thought using the shimmer rather then the matte would create more sparkle and wow! From the outer corner of the eye lid I applied the shadow to roughly about centre of my eye, and dabbed a little with finger to secure the shadow. Using the same eyeshadow I drew a line across my lower lash line and on the lash line. I did this to add intensity to the look. Finishing off with black eyeliner on the upper lash line, and a dab of barry m dazzle dust No.27 for the extra sparkle and then applying my favorite mascara! 3D fiber Lash Plus, never fails!

More Fall 2015 product’s and reviews

I ordered a a few products over last weekend to try and test. I usually find products via cosmopolitan magazine and the suggestions on websites I have bought cosmetics from. Now they have arrived after a few days of waiting on their arrival. I was keen to get going and testing them out. IMAG0645

  • MUA The artiste collection
  • Barry M ultra moisturizing lip paint “black cherry”
  • Loreal Paris brow artist plumper

The first thing I did was decide on high lighting and contouring effect. I normally go more towards my natural skin tone making the high light and contour as natural as possible. But since I was experimenting with the fall 2015 trends I thought a paler skin tone would create a more “vampy” look paired with the Barry m moisturizing lip paint.

More paler highlight and contour

So I set to work searching for a highlight and contour video/tutorial that would help me achieve this look. Most of the video’s I found had a lot of products that I have not yet got, so I followed the tutorials as best as I could and kind of played with shades a little to create my own.

I then got to work on my eye shadow. I wanted to use as much colours from the MUA artiste collection as I could so I aimed for purples/blues blending them together as I went along to create different tones. At first glance of the product I saw it was great value for money (priced at £8.99 eBay) the shadows are decent sized and a mixture of good colours. The applicator that came with the palette is great quality and very smooth, this made applying the product very easy. Each shade was also blendable and manageable with very if none at all all product loss by falling on to the cheek. The colours are not highly pigmented (bold) However they are noticeable and with more time and patients you could add layers to create your desired effect.  The added bonus to the palette is it comes with two blushers and a bronzer to complete your look. The shadows themselves are matte, and very silky. They apply like a dream on the eyes.

IMAG0710

How I did my eyeshadow was by using the shade “Pistachia” over the entire eye lid, secondly I applied the shade “Ice” in to the inner corners of my eyes and blended outwards.Once blended i then used the shade “Grape” above the eye lid and slightly blended outwards and into the middle of my eye lid. I also used a little of a darker shade of purple to dab on top and blend outwards to create different shades and definition. After applying all the purple shades I then used moodstruck mineral pigment “Corrupted” and using a liner brush, created a line across the crease of the eye lid and blended well with a shader brush. I then applied “Grape” again on the lower lash line.

IMAG0713

For my lips I applied moodstruck precision lip pencil “Pompous” using lip liner makes the colour set nicely in place and preventing the lipstick from bleeding. Also it creates a more vibrant look and helps make the lip stick last longer. When I first opened the lip stick it looked very dark, like a very dark plum colour almost to a very dark burgundy. But when I applied it, it was more like a dark red shade. I must admit I was a little disappointed in the shade when applied as I was expecting it to be the colour it looks.  The lipstick applied easily, it was velvety and very moisturizing. However I can see it been a lipstick that would need applying a few times through the day. One sip from a coffee mug and there was a lot of product on the edge of the cup! Over all it is a very good lip colour as it does not dry out your lips nor irritate them. The lipstick is also reasonably priced (£4.45 eBay) IMAG0708

My favorite product is the Loreal brow artist plumper! I love this product because it does exactly as it states “For fuller looking brows” I love the applicator to (looks like a small mascara wand, but much softer) which helps separate my brow hairs easily when applying the product and achieves more fullness, the brow plumper is also available in 3 shades light medium and dark. It is also very easy to correct a mistake! Less mess less fuss!

Contouring experiment…

No makeup

I have recently been intrigued by this whole contouring businesses, but I must say I am rather behind since this is a trend that has been around for awhile. I never really took an interest in it till quite recently. As stated before starting a makeup business has really pushed me into experimenting more with make up and finding out what works best for my skin and face shape. I am also going ahead with a beauty course, to learn makeup professionally as well as beauty treatments. Lets just say, starting this business has really made me open my eyes to what I enjoy doing the most.

After a few hours of searching for video’s and articles based on contouring I came across a video that was simple to follow and using more shades then my previous blog post. Making it slightly harder and more challenging for myself.

To start off with I applied a liquid foundation, this is because the contouring kit was cream and as advised by the video if your using a cream contouring kit, be sure to use a liquid foundation. Using a blending bud I then dabbed the foundation on lightly as you dont want to much product on, must remember the cream contouring kit also needs to be applied. You want it to look natural not caked on! After applying the foundation I then applied the liquid concealer under my eyes and again blended the product in by dabbing.

I then moved on to the contouring lines!!

After applying all the contouring lines and leaned back to have a proper look my first thoughts were “This is not going to work” I looked like I just randomly painted on lines which make no sense and could not see how these colours would blend in afterwards to create or even resemble a natural looking “glow”

After some hesitation I blended in the lines and hoped for the best. I followed the instructions down to exact (Except from the colours as I had a different palette and brand)

After blending the contour lines

After blending the contour lines

My over all opinion of contouring is that I do love the effects you can create with contouring, just by using different shades and certain colours you can really makeup your face to look amazingly flawless and cover up any problem areas. How ever I do find the whole process very time consuming and it does take some time to perfect. It is tricky to get right. I used a cheaper end of the market contouring kit so I guess this does not help. Next in line with contouring I shall be trying the Anastasia Beverly hills contouring kit as I have heard many great reviews about this brand of makeup, especially the contouring kit!

I would love to hear your thoughts on contouring and what are your best contouring brands/products? xox

How to achieve plum smokey eyes!!

Published September 21, 2015 by sarahsmith1988

www.beautychicz.com

Today I have been browsing different colours and techniques to make life simple by ditching the complicated makeup routines and swapping them for easy simple steps, but still providing you with the ultimate killer look! In my digging I found a few articles based on smokey eyes, but with using purples. It was hard to choose from which shades of purple to use and what style. So I kind of combined a few together to create my own. It is far better to be creative and use your own ideas as well!

1. Coat your lids with a purple cream shadow. Using your clean fingertip, press a violet-colored cream eyeshadow onto your eyelid from your lash line to the crease, Wait a few seconds and then layer the cream shadow to achieve your desired intensity.

2. Add dimension to your eye. Apply a deeply shaded shadow into the crease of your eye and up toward your browbone. This instantly adds dimension and depth to your look.

3. Line your eyes with shadow. Press a powder eyeshadow in a shimmery reddish-purple hue along the lash line, and use a smudger brush to apply it along your lower lash line.

4. Brush on a little shimmery shadow for sparkle. Pat a coppery, purple-pink shade eyeshadow over the center of eyelids to make your eyes pop

5. Line your eyes for definition. Run an eggplant-colored eye pencil along your upper lash line to define your eyes and make them stand out that much more.

6. Layer mascara onto your lashes. You can use your favorite mascara here, but here I used 3D fiber lash mascara for the ultimate definition.

7. Complement your eyes with a coordinating lip color.
