More Fall 2015 product’s and reviews

I ordered a a few products over last weekend to try and test. I usually find products via cosmopolitan magazine and the suggestions on websites I have bought cosmetics from. Now they have arrived after a few days of waiting on their arrival. I was keen to get going and testing them out. IMAG0645

  • MUA The artiste collection
  • Barry M ultra moisturizing lip paint “black cherry”
  • Loreal Paris brow artist plumper

The first thing I did was decide on high lighting and contouring effect. I normally go more towards my natural skin tone making the high light and contour as natural as possible. But since I was experimenting with the fall 2015 trends I thought a paler skin tone would create a more “vampy” look paired with the Barry m moisturizing lip paint.

IMAG0704

More paler highlight and contour

So I set to work searching for a highlight and contour video/tutorial that would help me achieve this look. Most of the video’s I found had a lot of products that I have not yet got, so I followed the tutorials as best as I could and kind of played with shades a little to create my own.

I then got to work on my eye shadow. I wanted to use as much colours from the MUA artiste collection as I could so I aimed for purples/blues blending them together as I went along to create different tones. At first glance of the product I saw it was great value for money (priced at £8.99 eBay) the shadows are decent sized and a mixture of good colours. The applicator that came with the palette is great quality and very smooth, this made applying the product very easy. Each shade was also blendable and manageable with very if none at all all product loss by falling on to the cheek. The colours are not highly pigmented (bold) However they are noticeable and with more time and patients you could add layers to create your desired effect.  The added bonus to the palette is it comes with two blushers and a bronzer to complete your look. The shadows themselves are matte, and very silky. They apply like a dream on the eyes.

IMAG0710

How I did my eyeshadow was by using the shade “Pistachia” over the entire eye lid, secondly I applied the shade “Ice” in to the inner corners of my eyes and blended outwards.Once blended i then used the shade “Grape” above the eye lid and slightly blended outwards and into the middle of my eye lid. I also used a little of a darker shade of purple to dab on top and blend outwards to create different shades and definition. After applying all the purple shades I then used moodstruck mineral pigment “Corrupted” and using a liner brush, created a line across the crease of the eye lid and blended well with a shader brush. I then applied “Grape” again on the lower lash line.

IMAG0713

For my lips I applied moodstruck precision lip pencil “Pompous” using lip liner makes the colour set nicely in place and preventing the lipstick from bleeding. Also it creates a more vibrant look and helps make the lip stick last longer. When I first opened the lip stick it looked very dark, like a very dark plum colour almost to a very dark burgundy. But when I applied it, it was more like a dark red shade. I must admit I was a little disappointed in the shade when applied as I was expecting it to be the colour it looks.  The lipstick applied easily, it was velvety and very moisturizing. However I can see it been a lipstick that would need applying a few times through the day. One sip from a coffee mug and there was a lot of product on the edge of the cup! Over all it is a very good lip colour as it does not dry out your lips nor irritate them. The lipstick is also reasonably priced (£4.45 eBay) IMAG0708

My favorite product is the Loreal brow artist plumper! I love this product because it does exactly as it states “For fuller looking brows” I love the applicator to (looks like a small mascara wand, but much softer) which helps separate my brow hairs easily when applying the product and achieves more fullness, the brow plumper is also available in 3 shades light medium and dark. It is also very easy to correct a mistake! Less mess less fuss!

Contouring experiment…

No makeup

I have recently been intrigued by this whole contouring businesses, but I must say I am rather behind since this is a trend that has been around for awhile. I never really took an interest in it till quite recently. As stated before starting a makeup business has really pushed me into experimenting more with make up and finding out what works best for my skin and face shape. I am also going ahead with a beauty course, to learn makeup professionally as well as beauty treatments. Lets just say, starting this business has really made me open my eyes to what I enjoy doing the most.

After a few hours of searching for video’s and articles based on contouring I came across a video that was simple to follow and using more shades then my previous blog post. Making it slightly harder and more challenging for myself.

To start off with I applied a liquid foundation, this is because the contouring kit was cream and as advised by the video if your using a cream contouring kit, be sure to use a liquid foundation. Using a blending bud I then dabbed the foundation on lightly as you dont want to much product on, must remember the cream contouring kit also needs to be applied. You want it to look natural not caked on! After applying the foundation I then applied the liquid concealer under my eyes and again blended the product in by dabbing.

I then moved on to the contouring lines!!

After applying all the contouring lines and leaned back to have a proper look my first thoughts were “This is not going to work” I looked like I just randomly painted on lines which make no sense and could not see how these colours would blend in afterwards to create or even resemble a natural looking “glow”

After some hesitation I blended in the lines and hoped for the best. I followed the instructions down to exact (Except from the colours as I had a different palette and brand)

After blending the contour lines

After blending the contour lines

My over all opinion of contouring is that I do love the effects you can create with contouring, just by using different shades and certain colours you can really makeup your face to look amazingly flawless and cover up any problem areas. How ever I do find the whole process very time consuming and it does take some time to perfect. It is tricky to get right. I used a cheaper end of the market contouring kit so I guess this does not help. Next in line with contouring I shall be trying the Anastasia Beverly hills contouring kit as I have heard many great reviews about this brand of makeup, especially the contouring kit!

I would love to hear your thoughts on contouring and what are your best contouring brands/products? xox

Hair & makeup pick of the best

HAIR:

I have been excited to write this blog tonight, seems not so much of a big deal for some but trust me it is a huge deal for me! I have finally found a hair product that tames my hair and keeps it flat all day long without any stray hairs sticking up or frizz forming at the end! I have tried many brands previously but nothing seemed to of worked. From creams to moose to oils to natural round the kitchen products. I was almost about to give up on my “looking for a product that will make my hair appear tame mission” till I came across two life saving products that didn’t cost the earth to. I was so looking forward to putting these products to the test in desperation more then anything. IMAG0649

So what are these mystery products? They are both by TRESemme

  • Renewal hair and scalp 60 second treatment
  • Keratin smooth beautifying oil

They were reasonably priced I bought the 60 second treatment on offer at £2.73 (normal price £5.49) so even when not on offer it is still a bargain for how amazing your hair feels afterwards with just one treatment! The keratin smooth oil was priced at £6.99. If you would like to try the 60 second treatment at offer price it is available in superdrug!

The 60 second treatment promises to

  • Instantly help nourish the scalp and renews your hair
  • Formula that helps nourish the scalp at the surface cellur level leaving your hair 3 times stronger!!

I certainly noticed a huge difference when I applied this product and the next day I noticed a softer more shiny hair. The ends of my hair appeared more smoother ( I often dye my hair and apply alot of heat to it from hair dryers, straighteners and curlers, but who doesn’t) So my hair is rather brittle but his product brought it back to life again.

The keratin smooth beautifying oil promises to

  • Provide easier to hair hair
  • Protect hair
  • Leave hair soft, super shiny and super smooth

Does it check all these boxes, yes!! After straightening my hair I apply some of this to my hair dry and it leaves it all day flat and frizz free. I also apply it after the shower whilst my hair is still damp and style it. May hair has never felt better.

I would say these products are recommended for people who dye their hair alot and use a lot of heat appliences. Also people with  hair that cant be tamed like myself would get great results from using these products for sure.

MAKEUP:

I have never really been to daring with blue eyeshadow’s, I guess its due to how much the blue stands out from the rest of the colours, it is certainly more noticeable and with blue eyes I prefer to steer away from blues. Is there such thing as to much blue? Also another thing I have steered away from is face contouring It looked far to complicated and far to scary to try. I love make up and having an even coverage, but I have pretty much started out on my makeup journey properly and really only ever stuck to the simple look’s and basic foundation’s but recently since selling makeup and starting this blog I have really started getting out of the comfort zone and been as daring as possible.

So tonight embarked on my first basic contouring. Just simple contouring that suits most people (according to the youtube video I followed to create this contour) It promised an easy guide for the ones who have no idea what they are doing. Any way I followed it to exact and wishing I had a better camera at the time of taking the before and after photo’s!! IMAG0669

With the contouring done I moved swiftly onto my eye shadow colours, making this up as I went along, still in my experimenting phase of things!

  • I first applied a white eyeshadow on each eye lid and also below the brow line. Creating a base for the blue shadow to sit nicely to avoid the shadow resting in the creases.
  • I then took a pale blue shadow and applied a little in the centre of the eye lid
  • Taking a shade darker blue, I then applied it next to the light blue (working outwards) Then finally taking a dark navy blue to finish off at the outer corner of the eye.

IMAG0675

  • I then applied eye liner normally along the lash line and finishing off in the crease of the eye lid to about three quarters inwards towards the inner corner of the eye and blended slightly. Just to create a bit of an intenser look. I am still debating weather this was a wise choice!
  • I then applied mascara as normal

The Liebster Award xox

Published October 4, 2015 by sarahsmith1988

First of all a huge thank you to https://dominavitae.wordpress.com/ for nominating me for the Liebster Awards

The rules of the Award are:

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Provide a link back to there page
  • Copy and paste the award to your blog
  • Answer the questions set by the person who nominated you
  • Nominate 5 blogs with less than 500 followers
  • Leave a comment on their blog to inform them of their nomination

I got asked these questions

1. If you could have any animal as a pet, which one would you have?

I was never the one for animals or keeping pets. But I have always loved whipets, little miniature grey hounds I call them their little cute faces are sure enough to make me “awww” and become suddenly broody for a puppy

2.What is your favourite colour?

My favorite colour is pink’s I love the colour pink from neon to baby pink. I alway’s thought of pink as been a fun colour reminds me of parties and sparkle moments.

3. What is your favourite lyric from a song? (hope that makes sense)

There’ll be a bump there will be a bruise
There’ll be alarms and there will be a snooze
There’ll be a path that you will get to choose
There’ll be a win and there will be a lose

this is from a song called Jump Rope by Blue October. I love blue october! Mainly due to his artistic and thoughtful lyrics, Justin really speaks from the heart about personal experiences which many can relate to. His music is remarkable on every level. Reaching out to those who sometimes feel like all is lost, and creating some form of positivity back into their lives. Certainly did for me.

4. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Sydney Australia! Looks truly magical and the thought of sitting round a camp fire on the beach with guitars and a cocktail just sounds fantastic!

5. Who is your woman crush?

I cant think of one from the top of my head.

6. Sweets or chocolates?

I am certainly more of a chocolate person, I dislike fruit flavours, or chewy sweets. I prefer white chocolate with a hot chocolate any day!

7. If you could be a superhero, who would it be?

I would personally want to be a super hero that made a difference in the long term. Super heros can save a person life, climb buildings and fight crime etc. But I would want to save someone for the long term! I would love to be able to have the power to make others see just how beautiful they are and that they are worth every breath they take. Help them see their true potential as a human and what they could really achieve if they told that voice where to go and listen to their inner voice that tells them they can and will do this!!

8. What it your idea of a first date?

Forget the wine and dine scene, snuggled up on a sofa with a blanket, hot chocolate and netflix!! just embracing each others company and be ourselves.

9. What are you wearing right now?

Maternity jeans (which have now grown uncomfortable due a very very large belly) But hey only 4 weeks to go! and a pink vest top with white cardigan and trainers. Ok, not exactly glam and well thought of but as a Sunday it is, I go for comfortable and laid back clothing, if I do happen to decide to go out I shall personally change into something a little more chic 🙂

10. Who is your man crush?

Robert Downey Jr, ok he maybe old enough to be my father but seriously!! that guy have some magic powers that has the ability to turn me into a dribbling wreck! and go weak at the knees!

I nominate the following bloggers: autumnnotfallbeauty, morning confessions, legallyblondej, thepetitemovement, you can call me ang,

Your 10 question’s are:

1: What is your must have makeup/beauty product?

2: Are you a cat person or a dog person?

3: What is your ambition in life?

4: If you could go back in time where would you go?

5: What is your favorite destination?

6: What is your favorite food?

7: What is your ideal night out?

8: What is your favorite flavour ice cream?

9: what type of genre do you enjoy most in movies?

10: What if your favorite song?

Two tone eye shadow? What are your thought’s?

Published October 2, 2015 by sarahsmith1988

I have never really been the one for two tone eye shadow’s. I saw one tutorial many moons ago with a pink and purple. it did look alright, but never really experimented with different colour’s. I recently came across a post that created a two tone eye shadow, so the thought of giving it another go spring into mind.

I think with two tone eye shadow it is important to choose colour’s that match your out fit well and occasion. Also drawing attention to the shadow its self. You ideally want colours that go well together and blend well. Depending on the look you are aiming to achieve subtle colours are also recommended.

I tried with pink and purples. I am currently in a pink, purple mood recently so seem to be experimenting with these two colour’s in different ways.

What I used: IMAG0617

  • stargazer “plush purple”
  • stargazer “funky fuchsia”
  • barry M dazzle dust No15
  • moodstruck precision pencil eye liner
  • 3D fiber lash mascara

The two tone shadow effect is one of the easy tutorials to follow, making it an ideal party look, using vibrant colours or even a subtle look using neutral shades such as browns or bronzes. I used dazzle dust to finish off for under the lower lash line and dabbed a small amount in the crease of the eye lid to create a nice shimmer effect. I also thought of adding glitter cream shadow along the lash line for a liner to create a party look.

Step 1:

I first applied “funky fuchsia” from the inner corner of my eye up to the middle of the eye lid

Step 2:

I then applied the next colour “Plush Purple” along the other half of the eye lid. Taking a shader brush I then blended the colours together in the middle slightly.

IMAG0618Step 3:

Finishing off the look I applied the eye liner “precision eye liner in perfect” to create a small flick, using a blending brush ever so slightly with small sweeps upward from the eye liner to tone down the definition a bit of the black. Depending on look you want to achieve you can go straight across the lash line, with a added flick or just a straight line. Try experimenting with different colours, shimmers or glitters.

I then applied mascara as normal

Purple Sparkle…

Published September 28, 2015 by sarahsmith1988

So in the post arrived my cream sparkly eye shadow palette’s I bought two palettes one in purple shades and another in grey/silver shades. I also came across some stargazer shadows which I always associated with gothic look or very strong neon colour’s that were not really suitable for every day wear. However I did come across some shimmer shadow they do with an amazing variety of colour’s to choose from.

So after a bit of debating with myself which to try first, I thought I would try out the purples and have a go at seeing what worked best for a look you could pull off day and night.

What I used:

  • IMAG0593 B sweet candy popping highlighting serum (New found love)
  • Bourjois Paris healthy foundation
  • NYX Royal Violets
  • Stargazer Plush Purple
  • Maybelline Wake me up concealer
  • 3D Fiber Plus Mascara
  • Moodstruck precision eye liner “perfect”

Step 1: I applied a layer of B sweet by first applying the product to a sponge applicator and applying evenly across my face making sure it is nicely blended with even coverage. Once I have achieved this I applied the concealer to specific areas that needed targeting such as redness and breakouts, using the tip of my finger I carefully blended in the concealer to create the even coverage. Once all look even I dampened a foundation brush and applied the foundation directly to my skin working in circle motions, again to make sure the product is finely blended.

Step 2: Using the precision pencil I drew a line from the outside corner of the eye and then drew a thin black line just beyond half way. I then thickened the corner of the eye and make a shadow effect in the corner. Taking the stargazer shadow I then applied the purple to my eye lid (I did dampen the applicator a little so I got a more vibrant look) Taking the NYX palette I then added the darkest shade of purple across the top of the stargazer shadow for the sparkle.IMAG0599

Step 3: To finish off I added eye liner to the lash line and underneath I used the lightest purple shade from the NYX palette to create a subtle liner below. Completed with 3D Fiber plus mascara!

My over all opinion of the NYX cream palette Royal violets is that they do make your eyes stand out more and do add the added sparkle effect which is great for an occasion you desire, however I did find them a little hard to apply as they did clump in places and took awhile to spread the product out evenly. but a bit of patients and you can create the desired look you want. I also found when removing the product it was a bit like removing sand, so I applied some moisturizer on my skin afterwards, especially the eye area. But they did the job nicely and not to bad if your on a budget.

IMAG0609

The stargazer shadow is another to be added onto my favorite list. I love how strogn the colour is and how nicely it was applied, they are also very blendable and manageable and you dont need a lot of the product either. So it is long lasting. I like how it leaves a subtle shimmer to the eye!
